Among adults and teenagers, the most frequently sexually transmitted disease is genital warts that is caused by the spread of the human papilloma virus or HPV. The virus is known to lie dormant for years together on the surface of the skin without causing any signs or symptoms. The virus is contagious and getting rid of a wart genital involves treatment by a physician. Several conventional treatments are effective in the removal of genital warts. However, this does not get rid of HPV which is the underlying cause of the disease.

Wart genital is passed through sexual contact with an infected partner which can occur even if there are no warts present on the carrier of the virus. Many individuals do not experience any symptoms but continue to spread the disease to others. Doctors usually diagnose wart genital through a visual examination. However, in some cases where the warts may not be visible to the naked eye, a biopsy is performed on a small skin sample.

As with any other wart genital warts can appear as small red or pink bumps and may be rough. They appear around in and around the vagina, cervix, and anus in women, and on the penis, scrotum, anus, and thighs, in men. Abstaining from sexual intercourse is advised since any irritation of the genital warts can cause severe bleeding.

Similar to any other type of wart genital warts are can be removed through various techniques that include freezing, where the warts are treated with liquid nitrogen. Cauterization or burning of the warts with the help of electrical current is another effective treatment. Often, when other forms of treatment do not work, genital warts are removed with the help of surgery that involves laser therapy. Several topical creams can also be used. However, any form of treatment must be undertaken under the supervision of a medical health care professional.
